The needs of our residents and their families do not take breaks on weekends and holidays, so Hughes admits and discharges residents seven days a week, 365 days a year. Similarly, our business office is open every day to take care of financial needs, and therapeutic recreation programs are offered for residents daily by our trained staff.
Since we have many staff members with extraordinary lengths of service at Hughes, our caregivers are able to establish strong, interpersonal relationships with those residents in their care.
Long-Term Care
We care for your loved-one in a compassionate, home-like environment. Our emphasis is on family style care giving, from our family to yours. Familiar faces greet and care for your family member due to our very low staff turnover and the extraordinary length of service of our employees. Skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services, especially physical and occupational therapy, planned and coordinated by a multi-discipline team, allow your loved one to enjoy the best possible quality of life. Residents are treated in real world settings in our facility, like our kitchen area and rehab gym to teach and strengthen them, and return them to their homes.
Respite Care
Respite, or short-term care, provides families with a break from their daily routine and stress. We provide the full scope of medical and nutritional services, along with activities for your loved-one while you re-energize. We know first hand the pressure and stress of care giving and by providing attention to the needs of your loved one, we make sure your time away is a time to recuperate.
Palliative Care
Also known as pain management, palliative care is an area of emphasis for our caregivers. Chronic illnesses often cause pain and related symptoms. We work to prevent the pain and ease the suffering while providing our residents with the best possible quality of life. Our caregiver teams work together with the residents and their families to make decisions and choose the treatment that gives best possible outcome.
Hospice Care
Simply put, our home is your home. Our team if caregivers works with you to provide comfort, strength, and support to those loved ones facing end-of-life issues. We focus on the dignity of very human being by providing symptom relief as well as spiritual, psychological, and social comfort. We encourage you to work along with us on a daily basis to give your loved one a continued sense of family so important to them as such a time.

Rehabilitation Services
We offer your family members a wide range of rehabilitation services to meet the wide variety of care needs.
Physical Therapy
Our rehab team meets the needs of your loved ones who have a loss of function or independence due to an illness or injury. Physical therapy helps our residents regain functional abilities such as walking, improving strength, balance and endurance, and recovering from painful injuries. Comprehensive physical therapy offers:
- Gait training with assistive devices
- Muscle re-education
- Muscle strengthening and coordination
- Prosthetic evaluation and training
- Transfer training
- Pain management
- Instruction in physical energy conservation techniques
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy helps our residents return to their optimal level of independence in activities of daily living. Functional skills such as self-feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting and homemaking are taught. Outcome-oriented occupational therapy may include the following:
- Instruction and assistance in regaining self-care skills
- Splint fabrication and modification
- Upper extremity strengthening and coordination
- Assistive device assessment/training
- Cognitive/perceptual assessment and training including recommendations for environmental adaptations
- Instruction in physical energy conservation and work simplification techniques
- Safety training
Speech Therapy
Working closely with full-time A.D.A. registered dieticians, the Speech Pathologist treats our residents with speech, language, swallowing and hearing impairments. The resident’s ability to communicate and swallow are two functional skills improved through speech therapy. Treatment includes:
- Speech-language evaluation/therapy
- Swallowing (dysphagia) evaluation and treatment, including food texture evaluation and recommendations
- Alternative means of communications assessments and training
- Vocal evaluation and treatment
- Cognitive assessment and training
